Siamo desolati il nostro presidente è un idiota

Le bufale vanno e vengono e a volte quelle vecchie possono tornare buone anche a distanza di tanti anni.

È il caso dell’immagine che vedete qui sopra, che mostra l’etichetta di un capo d’abbigliamento, bilingue, inglese e francese.

In inglese ci sono le classiche istruzioni di lavaggio, in francese invece ci si trova davanti a questa frase dopo la traduzione delle istruzioni:

Nous sommes desole que notre President soit un idiot. Nous n’avons pas vote pour lu!

Siamo dispiaciuti che il nostro presidente sia un idiota. Noi non abbiamo votato per lui.

Da dove arriva?

Questo è la parte curiosa, l’etichetta comparve nel 2004, ne parlava nel 2008 Tay Wiki Widbee, ma già nel 2004 su alcuni forum si potevano trovare risposte alla domanda di cosa si tratta?

In April 2004, someone called attention to the fact something was a little odd about the care instruction tags found on backpacks and laptop cases produced by manufacturer TOM BIHN of Port Angeles, Washington. Specifically, what was unusual was that the English and French statements on those tags didn’t quite match — while both versions included the usual admonitions not to use bleach, not to machine dry, and not to iron the bags, the French-language version included an extra phrase: “NOUS SOMMES DESOLES QUE NOTRE PRESIDENT SOIT UN IDIOT. NOUS N’AVONS PAS VOTE POUR LUI.” Roughly translated, this statement reads in English as: “We’re sorry our president is an idiot. We didn’t vote for him.”

Most consumers have viewed this message as an obviously deliberate (and, to many, inappropriate) slam at U.S. President George W. Bush, but the company’s response to the controversy has been coy, maintaining that the “message began as an inside joke among seamstresses and staff at the Tom Bihn factory, and was apparently intended to poke fun at company’s founder and president, Tom Bihn”:
Tom Bihn, president of the eponymous company, said he doesn’t know which of his 10 employees are responsible. “They know my French is so bad they could sneak it past me,” he said. But he doesn’t appear to be too determined to root out the guilty party and said he’s “not opposed to the sentiments” about Mr. Bush.
“We haven’t looked really hard to find out who did it because it’s good for us. When we find them, we’ll give them a raise,” said Mr. Bihn, who insists the “president” mentioned on the tag is a reference to himself as the company’s president and not to Mr. Bush.
The tag has “hit a resonating chord” all over the world, including France, where some customers believe the reference is to their president, Jacques Chirac. “People out there think a number of presidents are idiots,” said Mr. Bihn. “It’s a universal message.”

Un’etichetta per tutte le stagioni quindi, per alcuni si riferiva a Gerorge H.W. Bush, per altri a Chirac, mentre l’azienda che produceva le borse spiegava che si trattava di uno scherzo verso il proprio CEO.

Alla fine dei conti l’azienda ci ha guadagnato in visibilità, al punto che hanno realizzato una serie di t-shirt il cui ricavato è andato in beneficenza, tutte fatte con l’etichetta all’esterno.

Non servirebbe aggiungere altro, ma nella ricerca però di quest’etichetta mi sono imbattuto in altre, molto divertenti, tutte vere fotografate negli anni da svariati blogger.
